Took me two days to get this one in. Episode 3.09... Stranger in a Strange Land... (or, I Do Not Think That Tat Means What You Think It Means...)

Jack's up again this time and we start on a beach... but not the Lostaway beach. This one has thatched huts and a little boy selling pop. He meets Jack coming out of his hut and asks, "Doctor Jack want soda?" Jack shows him 2 fingers, gives him some money and remarks that they don't understand each other. He heads down the beach and has a heck of a time getting a large kite together. A pretty Thai woman offers to help him and together they get the kite in the air. She introduces herself as Achara.
Back on the Hydra island, Tom comes into Jacks cell and asks him to put on some handcuffs. Jack assumes that they only intend to move him to an execution room. Tom replies, "What kind of people do you think we are?" to which Jack gives a laundry list of things The Others have done. Jack agrees to leave and ends up passing Juliet in the hall where he notices that she is cuffed also and is led into his former cell. He passes a new woman that Tom describes a the new "sheriff" in town and shares that Juliet is in trouble. Jack is put in the Polar Bear cages where he tells Tom that he won't escape due to the cameras. Juliet gets brought to the cage where she asks Jack for help with Ben's infected stitches. He asks if this is because she wants off the island but she says she's in trouble for killing someone instead. Jack still refuses.
Out on the ocean between islands, Sawyer and Kate are arguing over returning to "Alcatraz" to rescue Jack. Sawyer refuses since its too dangerous when Karl wakes and says they will be killed if they return. He mutters that "God loves you as he loved Jacob" and then passes out again. The two continue to argue when Sawyer begins heading to the nearest shore while Kate wants to circle the island and go back to the main camp. Sawyer argues that they don't have food or water, and he can't navigate in the dark.
In the flashback, Jack is eating with Achara where her brother Chet server his something exotic and calls him brave for trying it. Achara asks why he did know how to fly the kite and when Jack starts in about his father issues, she stops him since some things are personal. She asks is he is there to find himself and before he answers, a man hands her an envelope and gives her the "namaste" greeting. She explains that its because she has a "gift". That night Jack is sleeping when Achara sneaks into his hut, undresses, and slips into bed with him. He asks about the "gift" and she says there are some things he would never understand.
In real time, Jack is approached later that night by the "sheriff" as she reads the Chinese letters in his tattoo. She asks if he knows what it means since it can be hard to translate which Jack insists that he does. She brings him to a room where Tom and Juliet as sitting and pass Alex along the way. Isabel suggests that Alex go see her father and then asks Jack if Juliet suggested he kill Ben. Jack says he only made it up to gain an advantage but Isabel asks why he's lying. Jack only asks to go back to the cage.
Back in the flashback, Jack follows Achara to a studio where he learns that she is a tattoo artist. She explains that it is more. That her "gift" is to read people, see who they really and mark them with a tattoo of her vision. Jack insists that she read him and she says that its not allowed for outsiders. He insists again and she tells him he is a leader and a great man but he's lonely, frightened and angry. He demands that she tattoo him even though she says there are "consequences".
Jack wakes to a start back in the cage in the morning to a large group of people watching him as though he were an animal in a zoo. One of them is Cindy, the stewardess from flight 815, who calls him by name. He asks why she is there and is answered with, "They're not... ummmm... It's not that simple. We're here to watch." A small girl asks her to ask about how Ana Lucia is doing which makes Jack mad and he yells at everyone to go away. As Cindy leaves she takes the hand of a little boy carrying a teddy bear like the one the kids had who were stolen from the tailies. When the crowd leaves, Alex sneaks out of the jungle and breaks the video camera watching the cage. She asks why Jack helped Ben even after all they've been through. He wants to know what is going on with Juliet and Alex explains that she going to trial for killing Danny. The Others are strict about their laws and they demand an eye for and eye. Jack says he helped Ben because he said he would and wonders if Ben is still in charge. Alex says he is and helps Jack out of the cage.
On the main island, Kate and Sawyer bicker still and Karl tells them they are lucky to be alive. He used to live in a house with a back yard on the main island and that "Alcatraz" is only for projects. The children are taken to give them better lives. Kate asks, "Better than what?" "Better than yours!" He says that there won't be a moon tonight and tells them of naming the constellations with Alex no so long ago.
Kate and Sawyer wake up the next morning to find Karl gone. Sawyer finds him crying and hits him so he will "cowboy" up. He tells Karl that once in a while you find a girl worth fighting for. Karl says that Ben would kill him this time but Sawyer says that any girl he would name dumb stars with might be worth it.
Back in the flashback, Jack is again coming out of his hut the morning after getting his tattoo. The young boy this time runs away from him in fright as Chet and some other guys come up to Jack, reveal his partially done tattoo and proceed to beat the snot out of him. Chet remarks he should leave the beach and the country, spits on him, and walks away with Achara while she crys.
Back on the hydra island, Jack confronts Ben about Juliet and makes a deal to have him save her life in trade for his help with the infected stitches. Ben agrees and write a note Jack and Alex take to the trial. Isabel announces Ben's edict and state that Juliet will be marked for her transgressions. Later Juliet brings Jack a sandwich (grilled, just the way he likes it) with toothpics. he asks to see her mark and it appears to be an upside down cross or starburst. He has her get a twig of aloe and he applies the gel to the scar. She asks why Jack decided to help her and Ben. He says he did it so Ben would let them leave the island. She asks how... "Together". Juliet than says that they have to go back to where they live since the Lostaways now know about the Hydra. Jack asks where and Juliet says that Ben calls it "home". Next we see Jack helping get Ben on a row boat on the shore to go out to a large boat that waiting. Isabel tells Jack that his tattoo means "he walks amongst us, but he is not one of us." Jack says that's what it says but it's not what it means.
Back on the main island Kate and Sawyer are arguing about Karl being let free. Sawyer says that she's not mad at him... she's mad at herself not for leaving Jack, but for sleeping with Sawyer since she only did it because he was going to die. Kate is visibly hurt and tries to ignore the comment. Later that night, Sawyer looks at Kate with sadness in his eyes as they walk back to the beach camp. Somewhere in the Jungle, Karl looks up at the stars...
Fade to Alex looking up at the same stars and Jack and Juliet watching the sky as the boat they're on travels back to the island.
