Another Geek Spooge about to happen.....

Harry over at Aint It Cool News is reporting (via the Hollywood Reporter) that the creator of two of the best mystery shows, Alias and LOST, the mind behind Felicity (for the ladies), and the man who actually made some people actually like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible III has a new gig... sorta.

JJ Abrams, TV demi-god that he is, had already signed up to write and produce a "reboot" of the Star Trek franchise. He's now been picked as the Director according to Paramount!

Woo Hoo! Maybe we can finally bring some semblance of respect to the series that pushed a generation of Americans into believing that someday, somehow, we will travel among the stars!

Fellow Geeks take heart. The dark Rick Berman days may finally be over....

I hate to be pessimistic, but this will suck. The story is a prequel. WHY? There are so many viable story possibilities with characters from the 3 successful post-TOS series (I refuse to acknowledge Enterprise). Why would you go back and tell a story with different actors portraying the most well known and establish characters the franchise has?

I must disagree. I must trust that JJ Abrams will do for Star Trek what he did for the television serial (i.e. LOST) and the television adventure (Alias). And, since the characters are supposed to be much younger, there's no reason new actors couldn't be used.

But that's just my opinion.
