Packin' em in and keepin' em warm.....

So... with the wonderful weather Mother Nature decided to throw at us this weekend (I swear the prayers were for SNOW not ICE!) a lot of people at work are without power, hot water (or any water at all) and warm meals.

We were lucky that our power didn't go completely off until Sunday night at 4:45pm. It stayed off until 11:00am Monday just as we were packing the family into the mini-van to head out for a hot meal and some much needed coffee. We were also lucky that we have a gas fireplace that we ran in 4 hour intervals and kept the house a balmy 65°. This was in comparison to our friends David and Susan who tried to use their wood fireplace to heat their house and could only muster 48° and Larry's place that lost all electric when a massive branch fell in their backyard and took our their power at the pole. Larry documents his adventure in ice here.

Needless to say, we felt the call to share the good fortune we had with as many friends as we could. David and Susan, and their two kids, and Larry and Michelle, and their child, have been camped out at the homestead since Monday. Surprisingly nobody has met their maker yet and except for the expected fights among the kids (no... not Larry and me) we are all getting along well.

Last night was rather interesting, and I'll let you get Larry's take over at Simple Thoughts, since our household has only one reality TV compulsion and that is American Idol. David and Susan as big fans too.... Larry is not. So when the season premier came on last night 11 of 12 current residents of our house gathered around the TiVo to watch the painful slaughter of innocent dreams that is the Idol auditions. We laughed, we cried, we had Paris.... or something like that... while Larry went to the kitchen to blog about us.

Oh well.... his loss.

Anyway, here's to good friends and warmth! May we all be back to "normal" as soon as possible!
