About ready to boycott Kay Jewelers!

I worked retail sales at Circuit City long enough to know that when you send out a flyer to customers advertising a special sale, if you won't have enough stock to possibly meet demand, you need to put a notice in the advert with one of the following phrases:
  • Limited Quantities
  • First Come, First Served
  • Special price limited to stock on hand
  • No rainchecks
Or something similar so that your customers know that they need to move their plump white butts over to the store on the first day of the sale to get one of the goodies and if you suddenly realize that you won't be able to fill the orders or the flyer was wrong, you post large signs that say the ad was wrong.  Even worse is when you send out a "special invitation" to select customers who have purchased from your fine establishment before and you are offering a special item at a special price only for them to purchase.

Well, Kay Jewelers at the Battlefield Mall, a jeweler that I have purchases 3-4 items in the past 18 months for my wife and mother sent us an invitation to come in May 5, 6, or 7 and "Choose" one of two rings for a set price.  No mention of limited quantities or first come, first served.. nada...  So Larry and I went to the Mall on Sunday to buy the only thing my wife asked for Mother's Day!

We walked into the store and waited patiently for a smartly dressed employee to help me.  I laid the flyer on the counter and asked to see the ring my wife wanted.....  I was told that they don't have them anymore.  Now those of you who really know me will be surprised that I kept my cool... didn't yell, pick up things and throw them, didn't call people names...  I looked at the woman and said politely...  "What?"  She responded that they are all out and will not be getting any more in... but they did have the other ring...  The one my wife hated!  I then proceeded to ask he to show me on the flyer where it says that it is limited quantities... She couldn't and nervously looked from me to the flyer and back several times.  I asked her to show me where it says first come, first served... She couldn't and he gaze flicked back and forth a few more times.  She then has the gall to say that I should have come in earlier...  "Does that flyer say 5th, 6th OR 7th?  Or does it say earlier is better?"...  No real response... So I asked the magic question?  "Would you please get me your Corporate phone number and a supervisor I can speak to tomorrow?"  Another gentleman now appears and says that there are no more of the ring I want at their store, but if I would like to give him my name and number, he would try to find one at another store and call me on Tuesday....

No offer of another ring of similar size or type for the price....

No offer to call their corporate offices and find out what they could do for me instead...

Just, "If we find one we will get it for you."   ....  Not good enough for me... so, I've looked up the phone number for their customer helpline and will be making a call as soon as my workday is over.  Interestingly enough they are open until midnight EST...  They may have wished they closed at 5.

As we were leaving, I turned to Larry and said.... I'm pissed, they did nothing, and...  I have a BLOG!

Good luck Kay Jewelers!

that is so crazy! i know that im replying a little late but i had a similar situation. i went online @ work hoping to find myself a ring for valentines day. i found the one i wanted and called just to make sure that they have that exact ring. the lady said everything that is online we have here in the store(never mentioning they may run out). i went to the store following work. i brought the print-out from the online website which shows the sku #, price, carat size, etc...the lady put my order in and i was told 10 days to 2 weeks and my order will be in. after waiting 13 days i called to see the progress of my order., they looked and told me that the ring wouldnt be in until april 11!! i was so upset i drove an hour out of my way to personally speak to a manager. once i got there i immediately asked for a manager in which she tried to take matters into her own hands. the manager walks up to address my problem. after searching and finding out that they made a mistake, didnt even bother to call and let me know, she tries to fix it in saying i will order the ring right now and we will get it in 5 business days, then we will send it off to be sized and you should have it 3 days following the 5. i wait, but then call in hopes that they got it right this time. she says it will take to the 11th which is 3 more days than the manager told me prior to., and on top of that she tells me that the price is more now. so i am in the process of figuring things out. but thanks for the comment, its a crazy world out there!!
