Larry and I went to our inaugural Springfield Area Bloggers meeting last night at the Patton Alley Pub. If you blog and live in, basically, SW Missouri, come down and join us on the Third Tuesday of each month for what has been described as a "Drinking Party for those with a Blogging Problem".
Guinness was consumed, and politics discussed and in the strangest turn of a conversation, Tom Cruise's desire to eat Katie Holmes' (heh) placenta after the birth was oddly discussed at length. Larry and I had a lot of fun finally being able to put faces to blogs and talk to those who share the fun in blogging.
At the end of the evening, Larry and I were talking to Michael Brothers, who writes In the Groove for the Springfield News-Leader, and the waitress asked where the "guy with the dark shirt went?" Well, that would have been Zach of Zach is here and.... He left.... Without paying his bill. By the way, Zach, you owe Michael about $7.00 plus interest at the next meeting.
One of the funnier things that happened was when Larry and I introduced ourselves during the night. When I would first be asked about my blog, I would give my name and the "Dad's on a Rant" and the response was usually, "Oh! I really like your stuff"... Then Larry would give his name and say, "Simple Thoughts of a Complex Mind", and the response was, "Oh... I've seen your site." And then they moved on... Larry and I got a real kick out of that, since, at least in our circle of blog acquaintances, most bloggers tend to lean a bit to the Left, if not almost fall that way, and Larry was sort of the "odd-man-out." We didn't hold that against him and he actually fit in very well. I was pleasantly surprised when he and Granny Geek were discussing Governor Matt Blunt and Larry stated that he was SOOOO disappointed in his leadership that he would go back in the DeLorean and vote for Holden instead. Then he said, "I'd vote for a Nazi before I'd vote for Blunt again!" BRILLIANT! Pour me another Guinness!
Overall, a good time was had by all and the next meeting I believe is scheduled for May 16, so join us if you can!

I'm usually one of the odd ones out (politically), but I think I fit in pretty well!
I found a blog one time, called "My Drinking Team has a Frisbee Problem". It sounds similar...
Yes, they're college guys. ;)
