Or... I'm afraid I can't do that Dave.
So this week we get the lowdown on Hurley's stay in the Psych Ward. Dave, "The sanest man in here", is a fellow warder with Hugo and is constantly trying to get him to eat... even when he doesn't want to.... And in a nod to films like The Sixth Sense and Fight Club, it turns out he's just a figment of Hurley imagination... and they drop clues all the time. The one that really hit it home with me was realizing that Dave never interacts with anything EXCEPT Hurley. He never opens doors, he never gets the basketball thrown to him, he can't open the window and didn't get the keys to the lock himself. Very nice, subtle hint that verifies in the end that he's not really there. And what brought him out in the first place? Why is Hurley in the Psych Ward? He thinks he killed someone. And then the numbers come back! 23 people on a deck built for 8! Hurley walks out onto the deck and it collapses. He goes catatonic and does nothing, no walking, no speaking, nothing except EAT... and create Dave to have an excuse to eat. Makes me wonder if Hurley wasn't always so "large" and his current size is just from all the eating? Maybe we will get a slimmer Hurley in the near future.... or maybe the producers are worried about his heart what with all the running and all.... (just sayin')!
We also get Hurley finally taking his frustration out on Sawyer. The mashup was hilarious with Hurley yelling back at Sawyer every name he's ever bestowed upon the big guy and during the entanglement in the tent, pulling Sawyer back into the fray not once, but three times. I was LMAO.
And the there's the much anticipated romance between Hurley and Lilly. I was yelling at the TV, "She's and Other. She's an Other!" in the next to last scene when her face went from all smiles to scowl and frown. I thought I had it figured out.. but then the kick you in the gut (nuts?) again and show that she was at the Psych Ward too... then I'm thinking she was a nurse... but no... now a good right hook to the chin.... she's a patient! Wow! One of the best setups of the season!
Wound into all of this we have tonight's sub-plot. "Henry" is being interrogated and Locke is none too happy about it... especially when the gun goes off! It appears (to me) that Sayid and Anna Lucia are playing Good Cop/Bad Cop and Anna gets to be the one that saves "Henry". Now I keep using the " marks since "Henry" isn't his real name but he tells Locke that he's been using it long enough that he's used to it. Anyway, Sayid works "Henry" into a corner by letting him tell a complete lie and catching him in it. "Henry" said that he didn't kill Henry Gale. That he was already dead as he found him hanging from the basket with a rope around his broken neck. Sounds good except for the fact that Henry Gale wrote a note to his wife Jenny letting her know that he had crashed on the island and she wins a Beer when he gets back. "Henry" then states that he didn't kill Henry, but he can't say anymore since "they" will kill him. "You don't know what HE will do to me!" Anna Lucia then says, "Who? The guy with the beard?"
"Him? He's nobody!"
WTF? This is the second reference to a mysterious HE/HIM in the past four episodes. Could it be Mr. Hanso? Sun's Daddy? Locke's Dad? Sawyer's namesake? (Still not convinced that Locke's dad isn't the original Sawyer!) Bernard and Rose's illegitimate child? Some invader from Mars? Your guess is as good as mine!
And finally, there is Eco and Charlie and a little plot line with some interesting ties to "Henry". Eco's building something and from the fact that he signed himself (did the Sign of the Cross for the uninitiated) before he went to work on the new log, my guess is that he's building a chapel on the island. The tie in comes when "Henry" says in response to Locke's, "What in the name of God..." question, "God has nothing to do with it. God has no more knowledge of this island than the rest of the world does!" If we thought there was a war in the making with Jack and Anna Lucia, just what we need now is a separate Holy War going on. Sounds like the believers (Eco, Charlie, Claire, etc.) vs. the unbelievers (The Others, et. al.). Really nice subtle setup!
Overall Excellent Episode! Cannot wait for the build up to the two hour finale! And then we have that excruciating 4 month wait for season 3.
Let me know what I missed!
