Blogging Lost! -- S.O.S.

Or.... What Rose Knew!

This week we start out with Rose doing what Rose does best... Being Rose. She's helping to organize and sort the food that fell out of the sky last week. Bernard (her husband) is aggravated and when asked, "Why?", he simply states, "They've given up!" --- waaaawwwawawwawawwaw (Lost zooms in).......

It seems that Bernard has come to realize that he's one of the few that haven't resigned themselves to the cards that fate (or Dr. Hanso) has dealt the lostaways. He's determined to get him and his wife off the island, but like Michael, he will soon find that the island does not let go so easily. He soon rounds up a posse of supposedly like minded individuals that feel that his plan to build a sign on the beach that will be big enough to be seen by a passing plane or Google Earth Satellites will work. But he runs into two problems... Rose.... And his attitude.... And they both stem from the same thing. Bernard has "Management Issues". It seems that Bernard and Rose met during a snow storm. Rose took a chance and invited Bernard to have a cuppa and 5 months later the two are in a restaurant on the coast and Bernard is distracted. Rose says, "What's God got to do to get your Attention?" He motions to someone, music starts, and he proposes... one small problem... Rose has cancer and a year plus to live. Bernard says that he's been a bachelor for 56 years... And still proposes.

Now at this point we are led to believe that they have gotten married and immediately (or at least quickly) went to Australia to Honeymoon, but one thing bothers me (and Jill confirmed my suspicions), Rose's hair is REALLY SHORT during the proposal, but when in Australia, her hair is much longer. Now this may be explained away due to the time required to set up the wedding... but nothing in Lost is as simple as that.... so we will see.

Anyway, Bernard takes Rose to Australia not for just the Honeymoon, but also to see a Faith Healer played by Scorpius himself (Farscape reference for the uninitiated). Rose is not a believer. She catigates Bernard and tells him, "I've made my peace"..... "I haven't." She goes in anyway since he sent Scorpy $10,000 as a donation to get her in quickly. Inside there are lots of crutches and walkers lining the walls. She meets the man and as he explains that there are spots on the Earth that have energy. Some are "magnetic" others unexplained and they are standing on one right now. He lays hands on her and quickly pulls away saying that he cannot heal her. She says that she didn't think her could anyway, but then he says that she can be healed, "This is not the right place for you." He's sorry and he will give the $10,000 back but Rose says to keep it... She's going to lie to Bernard and tell him She was cured.... Rose has secrets too!

Back on the island, Bernard is losing workers fast. He tried to recruit Charlie and Eko, but they are busy building a Church. Bernard is amazed that they have given up too and says to Eko, in one of the best lines of the ep, "I think I liked you a lot better when you were hitting people with your stick!" Charlie's response? "I like you just the way you are." Cue the Billy Joel.... Bernard also manages to run off everyone else including finally Jin, who has no idea what Bernard is shouting (or does he???) and simply says, "sorry" and walks away. Bernard even alienates Rose even more when they get into an argument and she asks why he always feels like he has to do something in every scenario. His reply... "If I didn't always have to do something, you wouldn't be here!" and he realizes that he's responsible for them being on the island. In the end, Rose tells Bernard what happened in Australia, that she wasn't cured but that as soon as they crashed on the island, she knew she was cured. "When something is wrong, you can feel it inside you"..."It's this place".... "If you can't leave, then I can't leave" And then the second best line of the night... "I would offer to take down the sign, but we didn't get very far....."

In other developments...

Jack goes to the hatch to find that faux Henry hasn't spoken or eaten in 2 days since they discovered he isn't the real Henry. Jack tells him that his idea of capturing someone (him) and making a trade was a good idea... except the lostaways are gonna' do the trading. Faux Henry tells Jack that the Others will never give up Walt... and then goes into creepy faux Henry mode. Jack takes the only gun they have right now with him leaving Anna Lucia with no way to defend herself... so Henry stays locked in the safe.

Jack then goes to the beach to get some help. Sawyer assumes that he's there either for him or guns... Jack want neither... He wants Kate since the Others obviously don't really want her... She's "damaged goods" and besides... I would rather go into the woods with Kate over Sawyer any day! The trip goes well, until Kate starts sniffing the makeup glue she found and thinks its a good idea to pick up a random doll she finds in the jungle. Bad idea. Jack tries to play the hero and the both end up in one of Rousseau's various traps. A squish, a squirm, an almost kiss and a couple of slugs later, they are on the ground laughing until Kate drops the bomb about the glue.. and the medical facility... and the fake beard.... Jack asks when she was going to tell him about this... "When you let me back into the Club."

So Jack and Kate trek to "The Line" that Mr. Friendly said not to cross and Jack screams that they are there until he loses his voice. Kate apologies for the kiss in the jungle, then in a "Deep, sexy, raspy" voice that sounds like he's channeling Kathleen Turner, he admit to Kate that he's not sorry that she kissed him. Ohhhhhhh... Looks like the love triangle may be broken... or maybe not? The comes the rustling of leaves and a torch and just when you think its an Other... Its Michael... Who? Oh, yeah! Walt's dad.... Haven't seen him in days... Forgot all about him.... by the way... been talking to any computers lately?

Meanwhile, back at the hatch....

Locke is still smarting over the fact that faux Henry lied to him so blantantly and after unsuccessfully trying to reproduce the map, he gets up in frustration. Locke hobbles over to the safe and asks Anna Lucia to open it, but since she has no gun, he has to talk through the door. Dumb butt doesn't even turn off the music. How's he ever going to hear that creepy evil smile that crawls over faux Henry's face? Locke gets mad and storms (about as fast as a cripple can) to the beach and decides to put the hatch behind him. Rose, she does seem to get around, catches up to him and in the discussion, Locke says it will be about 4 weeks before he's off the crutches. Rose notes, "We both know its not going to take that long", and pats him on the leg as if she knows something.

Flashback time.... Sydney Airport and Bernard is doting on Rose. He leaves for a minute and when she drops her meds, who is nice enough to pick it up? Locke in full wheelchair regalia. Rose has known since the beginning that Locke has been "fixed" by the island. Very nice! I was wondering how they were going to play the card that someone knew that Locke was crippled... This sends Locke back to the hatch for another try at The Map and what do you know... the info flows freely.

Queue the music so we start the two week drought of eps on a lighter note.. Hurley and Lilly are hitting it off, Jin is ooohing over the baby, Claire is cooing over Aaron, and Rose and Bernard? They are enjoying life.....

Sawyer's aka's of the week?
"Dr. Giggles" = Jack
Update 4/17 -- Forgot this one! "Norma Rae" = Bernard.

Next up in two weeks... Michael is back to lead the lostaways forward since the Others have little in the way of defenses....

Let me know what I missed....

Cool episode- and great recap. Did you notice that after Locke talks to Rose on the beach, he seems to sort of "morph" back into the strong, in control of the world dude he used to be before he got sucked into the button-pushing world of the hatch (which seemed to parallel in some weird lost-world way his kind of ineffective life before the island)?

I hope that they'll write him back as the strong guy again. I liked him a lot better in the jungle world!
